Rostelecom cancels purchase of Chinese tablets for 2020 census
MOSCOW, Dec 27 (PRIME) -- Russian state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom has cancelled the purchase of tablets by Chinese manufacturers for the 2020 census because of revision of requirements to the supplier, according to the documents released on the state purchase website on Friday.
“Rostelecom notifies of annulation of the purchase procedure…for the delivery of unified hardware and software complex, comprising tablets with installed specialized software to collect information about the population, with a Russian mobile operation system, information about which is in the register of Russian programs for computers and databases,” the documents read.
Following the changes, Rostelecom will buy tablets from one supplier.
The company planned to buy about 360,000 tablets and chose Moscow Region-based firms, Tegrus and Center of Distribution in November with a recommended 11.5 billion ruble deal.
Four bids were filed to the tender, all with Chinese tablets. A telecom source told PRIME earlier that Rostelecom would most likely hold a tender among domestic manufacturers.
